The NMAT exam that will be conducted over a 2.5 month period from October to December 2014 comes with its own set of challenges and differences from other MBA exams. The exam is is a test of speed and since it has no negative marking, separate section ordering and timing, a strong test taking strategy will give a student a significant advantage.
Let's take a look at some of those below but before that certain key dates for the NMAT
Last Date for Registration: 24th September 2014
Exam Dates: Oct 7th - Dec 20th 2014
Mode: Online
A candidate can attempt the NMAT up to 3 times during the 2.5 month Exam window.
Exam pattern:
Total Number of Questions: 120
Total Time: 120 minutes
Number of Sections: 3
Question Distribution:
Language Skills: 32 Questions in 22 Minutes
Logical Reasoning: 40 Questions in 38 minutes
Quantitative Skills: 48 Questions in 60 minutes
Why is NMAT very different?
1. There are 120 questions to be solved in 120 minutes and hence speed is a challenge.
2. Each section has a separate time of its own and hence time saves on one section cannot be utilized on another. Hence, you have to plan for each section separately and be strong in all the three sections.
3. It is the only exam (with sectional time limits) that allows you to choose the order of sections. Hence, you can pick the order that optimizes your performance over the duration of the 120 minutes.
4. There is no negative marking. Since there is no negative marking it is encouraged that you attempt all the questions. Hence it is important to save a few minutes at the end of each section so that you can visit the questions you have not attempted and attempt them.
5. The test interface can be challenge for those taking not familiar with it. The tess does not allow you to see how many questions you have attempted/marked until you reach the end of the section, one question at a time.
All the above make it imperative that you solve as many Mock tests as possible and narrow down on your ideal test taking strategy. For 10 Mock NMAT tests in the new pattern & the exact test interface, click here.
